Cooking Light Recipes

Although losing weight is by no standard of measure an easy task, the most difficult thing is resisting our favorite mouthwatering dishes. However, if one does thorough research, it becomes apparent that it is not an either or choice anymore. By following some simple tips you can diet and continue to eat healthy yet delicious meals everyday! Having said that, one needs to keep in mind that if you trying a new recipe for the first time, you cannot just substitute ingredients just because you want to.

Expert chefs recommend referring to lightened versions of the same recipe or similar recipes for guidance. If you are trying to lose those extra pounds and keep them off, use nonstick pans and cooking spray instead of cooking oil or butter. In a recipe if you cannot avoid using oil, use canola oil since it has nearly half the saturated fat and more healthy, unsaturated fat in comparison with other types of oils. Substitute one percent milk for whole, half or half-and-half for cream in soups and desserts.

Try using egg substitute in recipes having more than one egg in the ingredients. Finely chopping nuts, bacon, olives, and other high-fat or high-sodium ingredients allows you to reduce the quantity in the recipe without compromising the flavor. Leaner meats such as center-cut or loin meats and skinless, white-meat poultry are much healthier and have lesser calories and will help you in cooking light. Substitute melted cheese and butter with lemon juice; this will add a very nice flavor without the additional calories. Instead of adding chocolate or cheese to the batter, sprinkle it as a topping. This will concentrate the flavor without sacrificing the number of calories and will reduce the amount of fat.

Do not feel the need to follow the recipe to the dot. Keep in mind that for most recipes you can reduce the amount of sugar by up to 50 percent without a noticeable difference in taste. Another delicious yet effective tip is to substitute oil with fruit (and fruit sauce) in in breads and other baked goods that keep them moist and mouthwatering and add a little flavor. If you cannot avoid using cheese in a recipe, be sure to choose one of the (available) options that are rich in flavor since you will be able to get the same flavor for lesser quantities and thus, lesser calories. If you cannot sleep without a glass of milk, drink 1 percent or skimmed milk. Substitute your butter with light butter and try to take cold cereals for breakfast. Do not miss breakfast since it is the most important meal of the day. If you nutritionist suggests that you skip a meal, have breakfast and dinner and skip lunch.
